James was able to fly back from Texas Sunday night so he was here for the burial Monday morning. Dad was buried at the veterans cemetery with full military honors complete with a twenty-one gun salute. The finality was hard but it was a fitting ceremony for dad. Mom went to rouse him at 9 am and he was not able to open his eyes but was able to indicate that he was not in any pain. His right shoulder had been twitching off and on most of the morning which was an indication that another seizure might be in the beginning process. I am spending every day in bed listening to lectures and thinking a lot. I've been reading Randy Alcorn's book called Heaven. I highly recommend it. The book leaves me with a very surreal feeling. Dad met with his oncologist, Dr. Glass, today with my sister, Kara. Dr. Glass said that Dad's physical symptoms indicate that the Avastin chemo is no longer working. He gives Dad about 3 to 4 months.

Please pray for my mom who is currently in the hospital recovering from care-taker burn out. Dad is missing his wife terribly and can't wait for her to be able to be home.

Dad's last MRI indicated a midline shift in his brain caused by the tumor. Dad, Mom and my sister Kara met with the oncologist this last Wednesday and looked at the MRI of the tumor. The tumor has grown back to the size that it was before Dad started the chemo treatment, Avastin. Right now the course to address the tumor is to continue with the Avastin treatment and hope that the tumor will once again shrink. My oncologist said he present my case anonymously to a recent gathering on the use of Avastin.  and received oos and aahs from the audience. I wish I could have been there to hear it. The tumor is still stable and still about 1-2 cm in size in my right parietal lobe. While I would like it to go away, stable is good. My next MRI is in May sometime. No real side effects from the tumor. The MRI showed a continued stable condition of the tumor and Dr Glass pointed out an area where there used to be tumor and there is no more. Twice over the last few weeks I have gone for a walk in the neighborhood and covered 1 mile. I had me continuing vitamin C infusion. Next week is another chemo infusion. My oncologist indicates he would expect ongoing steady condition of the tumor. The good news is that the tumor has shrunk!!! There is no longer a mid-line shift due to the tumor pressing on the brain since it has shrunk so much. It has shrunk enough. The church parking lot is full of snow (12-18") but as long as the electricity is on we are fine. Church is cancelled for tomorrow so everyone can stay safe. I am doing fine. Mark Crocco, our regular preacher was in a car accident earlier and couldn't make it to Southwood. It is good to have a day off from medical appointments. In my visit yesterday to Dr. Oswaari, he could not  detect any CMV (Cytomegalovirus) - great news! Yesterday, I was able to negotiate my way without any use of a wheel chair.    I have restarted my chemo pills (Temador) to coordinate with the Avastin. So, how did we spend it? At the Jefferson Infusion Center getting my 2nd Avastin infusion. It went well with a brief moment of leg weakness as I was negotiation my way to the infusion center. I had my same nurse. We enjoyed the rest of the day just being together. Since it is hard for us to go to a restaraunt, we were home the rest of the day. I had a very nice infusion nurse, Paul, who let me know he is born again. "i am home and resting and so far no side effects. I will go back in two weeks. They had an MRI done. Dr. Glass said the tumor looks pretty much the same with the center being dead. It doesn't look like it has grown, but neither has it shrunk. Since Dad is having physical symptoms, Dr. Glass thinks it is best to work at trying to shrink the tumor with Avastin (a type of drug) infusions.
